JUUUUUNE

Hello internet friendz.
As some of you (all of you?) know I am interning with Tunnel Vision. Yesterday I worked on the July lookbook, and basically it is amazing. One of the outfits was so good it made me cry, no lie (oh god, that rhymed..). Basically I don't thing there is a better thing for me to be doing with my time. Working with Madeline & Brit is amazing, and they have such talented friends who help out with Tunnel Vision in so many ways.. It is seriously the best shop ever, not just because of the sweet vintage stuff for sale, but also because the co-owners are OHHHMAZING. srsly. Get pumped for the July lookbook which comes out July 6. Woot, woot!

These outfit pics were taken in the Tunnel Vision studio the other day:

Whirlwind

Hello.

This weekend has been mind blowingly wonderful. I have such amazing friends in LA. On Friday I spent the day with Larissa (she wrote an amazing description of what we did here). We went to a crazy art show filled with blood, intense films, and gory portrayls of sex. It was produced by James Franco, and my mind was kind of numb afterwards. It isn't my most favorite kind of art at all, but I enjoy being challenged by art and I am glad to have gone with Larissa. :) Larissa and I then walked around Hollywood (yes we saw the stars on the streets and all the ppl dressed in costumes, lol) and we joked around there for a while.

Yesterday I went to the Moon Block Party in Pomona, CA with Rachel. Woah. What a good day. I can't even begin to describe all that occurred, but it was perfect. There were three different stages with musical performers throughout the day, booths with art, jewelry, and vintage, a mystical dome filled with patterned fabric hanging and carpets and pillows. I met tons of really wonderful people.

Today I spent the afternoon with Larissa, we went thrifting and we walked around LA. Basically I had an amazing weekend. If you want to see more pictures of everything that occurred during my weekend you should check out my twitter and/or instagram because those have TONS of pics from throughout all the adventurous days.

These pictures were taken at the art show (it was named "Rebel")

Big Hank

As I write this I am sitting in my grandmother's living room in Portland, OR. I am here to visit my grandfather, Hank, who is one of the kindest people that I know. My grandpa suffered a stroke a couple of months ago, and he has been suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's

Although he has now lost some of his height and the majority of his agility, in his prime my grandfather was 6' 4''. He still has sparkly blue eyes that light up when he is talking with you. His smile and laugh are contagious. He tells stories extremely well, and would start friendships with anyone. He was in the army during WWII, and I've heard many of his war stories. Some are heartbreaking and others make you laugh till you pee your pants. My grandfather aided his fellow soldiers many times when it would have been easier to leave them behind. He touched people from all walks of life and did so without even thinking twice. He was a civil rights activist, a social justice focused pastor, and a kind father. I will leave you with one of his war stories which is my favorite:

My grandpa fell into the category of what the Germans thought was an "ideal" man, tall, blond, blue eyed. The US army compiled a group of men who fit this description of perfection and created a group of men - tall, blue eyed, and blond. My grandfather was dragged into the crew. They were to march down a street in Germany in order to sort of "stick it" to the Germans who remained. The Ally army officials gave orders to upturn the homes in a civilian apartment building. My grandfather was groupedwith another tall, blond, blue eyed soldier and they went on their way. Although his partner encourage him to rampage the home they were assigned, when my grandfather arrived at the doorstep an elderly couple greeted the two soldiers he told them why they were there but that he would cause them no harm. My grandpa's partner left him in an angry huff. The elderly couple shared a cup of tea with my grandfather while all around them other homes were being upturned. My grandfather's partner finally returned and was joined by an official who arrested and drove my grandfather to a prison. At the prison the guards told my grandfather that they didn't need ANOTHER soldier in prison and that a big fella like him should be a guard. Thus began my grandpa's stint as a prison guard. -_-

Here is me a few days ago:

three kitties

Yo, my people. Sorry I haven't quite got into my LA posting groove yet, I am trynna figure it out.
I have gotten a couple of questions on my formspring about how I am affording to live here and what I am doing job-wise. Basically I saved up a lot in order to move and so I have a bit of a cushion right now, but I am trying to find work.. I am really open to places to work so yeah, if you hear of something, hollah at ya grl! Also, I am going to be interning with Tunnel Vision. Tunnel Vision is an online vintage clothing and jewelry shop run by two of the most amazing fashion bloggers and people ever, Madeline and Brit. I will be helping with a variety of things, photo shoots, sourcing, packaging, ermmm other things.. I start next week! woop woop.

One of the things I love about living in a city is that there are awesome things to do all the time. Last week I was at Pride nonstop, and a few days before that I went to a reading at a library feat. Bebe Zeva and some other internet-y authors. Last night I went with Larissa, Selena, and Rachel to the LA Art Walk which happens once a month in downtown. It was my first time and it was totally awesome! I got two crop shirt/tank things that are oooh-mazing, and I had an all around amazing time with some of my favorite people in the world. The event was free, there were tons of local artists, musicians, vendors, etc selling their goods/hanging around and meeting new people. I almost got a painting and I am kind of kicking myself for not getting it, but there is always next time.. I highly advise you to go to events like these, it makes you love the city you live in so much and allows you to appreciate the diversity of creativity living in one place. GO GO GO!!!

Pride

Happy Pride!
Friday I kicked of GAY Pride festivities with my roommates at the LA city dyke march! Pride festivals are obviously the best invention, ever. I suggest you look up when your city is having theirs (most likely this month some time) and GO!!

Basically I document my life through twitter and instagram so if you want to know what I am actually up to on a day to day basis you should look at those sources. I am going to make more thoughtout posts on my blog, less random information about my days. Make sense? Cool. This will be starting next post. baha cuz I am too lazy right now to post anything with some real content.

OH. here is some fun news. I am going to a DIE ANTWOORD concert in August with Rachel. Best thing of my life. for sure.

this sure is a nice city to be in, ehhhhLA

OH MY EFFF! I AM ACTUALLY UPDATING MY BLOG! Holy hell, who am I?

I am in Los Angeles! It has been a crazy past few weeks with moving into my old house from the rental in MPLS to moving out of it again to move here.. but here I am now. I cant wait to explore more; so far I have stayed mostly in my neighborhood, but I went to the Melrose Trading Post with Larissa on Sunday. It was mind blowing-ly amazing. Both Larissa and I got some really great things, which Larissa kindly haggled down a bit in price. (I am not good at that yet, but I will get there!!)

here is one of my many LA outfits.. woohoo (the weather here is so great; it is cool in the morning and then it heats up and cools off again at night)

The drive here was nice, long, and sleepy. My two roommates and I took three days  to get from Minneapolis to LA. Let's see if I can remember all the states we went through: Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and then California! Seven states in three days, woo hoo!  We drove through Las Vegas and I absolutely hated it! I was excited to go through it but when we actually got there it was totally gross. We stopped at a gas station and I was harassed 4 times by the same guy -_- yuck. I'm sure there are better parts of Las Vegas but I sure didn't see them.

On the subject of harassment.. I've started keeping track of how many times that people sexually harass me. I wish that society taught guys that it is NOT acceptable to cat call at girls no matter what they look like/what they are wearing. I am keeping track for a little experiment to see how many times it happens in a month.

I want to end on a happy note, because I am really happy right now! LA is wonderful so far, I have conquered the bus system, I know where the nearest grocery store is to my house, and I have two rad roommates who want to explore with me! It is awesome so far, I cant wait to hang with more of my blogger friends, YAY!!! Tonight I had dinner and tea with Rachel! Yes, she is as cool in real life as she is on internet life. lolz. I am so happy to be in LA!!

(ps did you get my pun in the title? in MN ppl are supposed to say "ehhh" after everything, but I made it EHHH-LA, like LA. get it? get it? get it?)
